36 anchors
2024

Some call it a Magic square. Interlocked in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal directions, numbers are assigned to each squared frame. Adding up these numbers in any linear direction will show the identical sum. The structure itself as a symbol of equilibrium, it was long believed to hold a secret clue to the universe.

What this magical formula could show must be more than just a neat arrangement of numbers in a grid. I traced down the lines, following the sequence of 1, 2, 3, 4... until the last number, and found patterns and shapes that compose this so-called state of balance.

<36 anchors> draws the moments of rupture when this absoluteness is broken, discharged, and diffused, kindling the vitality anew.

The series was created in La Maldita Estampa, Barcelona, during the residency period in September-October 2024.
